This week its knitting time

First, Marlena will share her Rhinebeck experience with Us

Then, Jessica will share her passion for knitting, being my guest muse this week.

In regards to my puff sleeved Cardigan that is getting a little piling under the arm hole area

the Tech knitter advise me on the subject

"Sadly, the best way to avoid pilling is to work in wools which do not pill--longer-staple, tightly twisted wools. A good example is Dale Heilo. However, these "utility" wools are not as popular as softer, more luxurious wools such as cashmere, for example. Paradoxically, the softer (and pricier) the wool, the more pilling is a problem. You can solve the problem with your sweater by shaving it using a sweater shaver made for the purpose, or by using a sweater stone, and this will solve the problem in the short term. However, as you correctly point out, further wear, further pilling and further de-pilling will eventually weaken the fabric itself. If a weak spot is developing in a limited area, you can duplicate stitch over it, but this is not a perfect solution, either, as you have a nearly double thickness of fabric (could be uncomfortable under your arm) and it also looks odd where the duplicate stitch patch ends. Sorry that the news is not better..."

Cathy Zielske is definately the real deal, not only is she one of the most loved scrapbook artist in the scrapbooking community, but she is a strong advocate for empowering women to record their everyday life in the most simpliest, easiest form. She promotes the "keep it simple" theory of scrapping and it was a pleasure to get a one on one with her.

I have been inspired by my COMPLETED SHRUG!!!! OMG! I am so glad this is over. This gave me fits. But I learned a LOT....

Toya is being inspired by sleep and water lol. Tee hee, No, she is NOT pregnant! tee hee

I finished Simplicity 3838
and Butterick 4724
I didn't make that cape, non-sense lol

I cut out and started on Simplicity 4112

Toy's Scarf Pattern....
IRISH HIKING SCARF
Simplicity 3877 She cut it out and started on it. But it is NOT in "THE BAG" lol.

Don't let Toya fool you...she really does like knitting. But Shhhhhh, DON'T tell her I told you....promise??? Ok....good.

Gorgeous Things Fabric
Her stuff is beautiful. Tell everyone you know...well, not everyone, well ok. Go ahead lol....She has BEAUTIFUL fabric! LOL

What do you need to have in your knitting bag....

Tapestry needles
These come in several sizes, each appropriate for a different size yarn, and with either blunt or sharp tips. Some larger blunt-tip needles have a bent tip which is particularly helpfulf or seaming. Keep one of each kind available in your bag

 Tape measure
It should be long enough to measure the entire length of the pieces you are working on, marked in both inches and centimeters, and should be made of a material that does not stretch. It may be the familiar fiberglass tape or a retractable tape in a small case

(or you will be like me and not have one and need to measure something. I ended up printing out a ruler from http://www.vendian.org/mncharity/dir3/paper_rulers/  yes I was desperate

 Needle gauge
For checking needle size. A vital tool since many needles do not have the size permanently marked.

 Stitch markers
These are also available in a variety of styles for a wide range of uses: rubber, lock ring, wafer thin, split ring, open coil, jumbo.

 Safety pins
Coilless safety pins are a particular help -- they can be used to mark buttonhole spaces, keep track of increases/decreases, hold pieces together to be sewn, mark even intervals for stitch pick-up, or as a tiny stitch holder.

Straight pins
Rust-free pins with large heads are used for blocking. Several styles are available: T-pins, lollipop pins, plastic pins

 Row counters
May be useful for intricate pattern work

Darning egg
Helpful for sock knitters -- and not just for darning toes!

Point protectors
Not every knitter uses these, but those that do find they are useful for keeping your needle tips from piercing your knitting bag and keeping stitches on the needles. They come in leather, rubber, and plastic models in a variety of designs, in different sizes to fit all needles.

Calculator
For making pattern adjustments or designing your own item.

Pen/pencil and notepaper
For making notes on the pattern, reminding yourself where you left off or changes you have made, or for jotting down a phone number or recipe you get while chatting with other knitters.

Crochet hook
Select a size that is appropriate for the yarn you are using. Crochet hooks are invaluable for picking up dropped stitches and rescuing split stitches. Keep several sizes in your bag so you'll always have the right one.

Stitch holders
Often needed to hold neck or shoulder stitches, they come in a variety of styles and sizes. Some knitters prefer to keep a small ball of smooth cotton yarn or crochet thread to use instead of a purchased stitch holder

Heidi Swapp Book Just for Looks. VERY good book and worth the money. No commentary, just LO's and supplies. Get one for yourself and a friend!
My favorite pages are 4, 12, 37,47, 72 & 73
Toya's favorites are page 5, 15,17,19,81
We did NOT like..2, 26&27

This week we talked about what is inpiring us.

I was very inspired by Toya's post last week on craft rooms. They were beautiful, but you will have to tune in NEXT week to see what I did to my very own room. It looks NICE. And it took ALLLLLL night on last Friday. ALL night.

Toya has been inspired the usual stuff. Loving all the light fabrics, and flower motifs. It is almost spring, and she has started to knit, so she will have a new habit soon. WATCH. Mark my words! tee hee. And she picked up this BEAUTIFUL fabricTOTAL yumminess ok? You can see a picture on her blog.
